Bletchley Community Heritage Initiative

About us

Bletchley Community Heritage Initiative Project has been running for the last four years and is based in Bletchley Library. It is inspired by the lives of local people and the events that have shaped Bletchley’s past and recent History. It is looking for photos, documents, books, memorabilia, but above all, your memories of Life in Bletchley.

A project that the Bletchley Community Heritage Initiative is currently running, is looking at the railways and its impact in Bletchley. For more information please click here

It is a Living History Project where memories are collected not just to be stored away in an archive but are also brought to life through books, exhibitions, Web pages, CD Roms – even dance, textiles, plays, video and radio programmes. These then become the focus for community celebration and pride.

The Community Heritage Initiative is not like a conventional museum with a sterile exhibition of old documents and artefacts. It is, above all, an active project involving people of all ages and backgrounds in collecting stories and other artefacts and then using their talents to share those histories with others.

The Community Heritage Initiative is here to bring old and young together in a way that could lead to new friendships and respect, and may include the involvement of local school children in researching the history of the community by interviewing older residents.

It involves the history of all the people of Bletchley, the ‘old’ villagers and the more recent estate dwellers, telling their stories and sharing their thoughts and experiences, about current issues as well as the past.

This project is supported by the Local Heritage Initiative, Bletchley & Fenny Stratford Town Council, West Bletchley Town Council, The Living Archive, Milton Keynes Library Service, Spotlight on Bletchley Regeneration Project, and Milton Keynes Council.
