The Telephone Preference Service (tps)The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) helps you to make sure your telephone number is no longer available to organisations who may telephone you with offers and information you do not wish to receive. Under Government legislation introduced on 1st May 1999 and replaced on 11th December 2003 by the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, it is unlawful to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to individuals who have indicated that they do not want to receive such calls. Before you register however, you should reflect on the fact that registering may well prevent you from receiving information which you would really like to have - thereby cutting you off from relevant and worthwhile opportunities. Registration will prevent organisations who regard you as a customer from calling you again, unless you have previously told them that you have no objection to them calling you. The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a central opt out register whereby individuals can register their wish not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS. Once a number has been registered it will become effective in 28 days. It is free to register on the TPS. Mailing Preference Service (MPS) supports your right to choose the mail you want. With UK consumers generating over £25 billion worth of postal sales per year, it's fair to say the majority welcome the information and special offers they receive by post. However, it's also understandable why some people might take a different view. The MPS is here to make your choice known - so you get the mail you want and need. Unwanted, unread Direct Mail has no place in anyone's home. And if you're not interested in receiving it, we will update our records for Direct Mail companies to see and adjust their lists as you request. Many of the people who register their preferences have suffered bereavement, and they simply want to stop future commercial mailings from being sent to the deceased. As responsible professionals, Direct Mail companies don't want to upset anyone or waste time sending marketing messages that are not welcome. They respect your choice too. Equally true, they want to be careful not to waste valuable paper and postage. So registering your choice helps them market considerately, ethically and economically.
