SICK AS AN AFRICAN PARROT

New poem from Dave Whippman

SICK AS AN AFRICAN PARROT
(With apologies to Tennyson)

Could England win again?
Could we once more attain
Par with his holy name,
Blessed saint Ramsey?

O how we groaned and cursed!
Right from the very first
They played the very worst,
Awkward and clumsy.

Soon every chance was done,
T-shirts and flags are gone.
Now we must dwell upon
Chances they squandered.

In four years time, we'll see,
But realistically
What will their chances be,
One in six hundred?
